How To Assemble The ‘A’ Frame

assembly1_large

1. Assemble the unit on the ground in front of the vehicle to be towed. When connecting the two rear legs ensure the chain posts are on top and the legs are secured in to the frame with the pins provided.

2. Adjust legs outwards then slide unit under the vehicle to be towed. Lift up the chain post at the end of the leg and feed the chain from the front over the lower suspension member/axel. The chain will drop down at the back and should now be pulled foward from underneath on the inside of the leg so the chain post is ’snug’ up to the front of the suspension member. Attach the chain into the joiner link on the strap and take out the slack by tightening up the ratchet. Do not let chain drag on the ground. Do not attach by the end link, ensure at least three or four links are passed through joiner link. Simply attach other leg. Check that the wheels will clear legs when cornering. The crossbar can now be swung around and located into any convenient hole. Tighten up the wing nuts and ratchet at least two or three times.

3. Do not attach the chains to the Anti Roll Bar, Drive shafts or any part of the steering mechanism. On some vehicles it is more convenient to attach to chassis cross member, either in front of, or under, the engine. The recovery vehicle needs to be reversed into line, as straight and as close as possible for the attachment to the tow bar.
